There’s no sincerity from those willingly ignorant and blaming their guilty consciences on Christians. They try to place God’s institution next to that of a union of sexual perversion. There will be more attacks against Christians. Don’t be fooled. You’ll have no right to discriminate against employing those who are apparently immoral. This is hatred in action as they celebrate their defiance. They hope to lay their pain of their sin on the backs of Christians. It will not relieve the pain and sorrow of their consciences raging against God’s law. They will turn more and more against Christians.

Seeing God's Breath

I fail to grasp how it is that Christians so reliably play the victim card on any issue that crosses the transom of Biblical teachings. Do they think they are the only religious group that is against gay marriage.? In the case of gay marriage I fail to see how any Christian is harmed by it. If gays were knocking down the doors of the local Assembly of God, hogtying the pastor, and forcing him to marry them it would be another matter.

Can anyone explain how an institution can be harmed? If a practice is not within the institution than it is not recognized and therefore seperate. Gay marriage is not straight marriage in a religious sense. Are Christians worried that god will some how look unfavorably on them if gays are able to marry? That would be heretical to the teachings of Christ, but I guess that has never stopped crazy religious zealots in history has it?

It was Calvin who decreed that marriage should be both legal and religious so it was the Chritians who got themselves into this mess in the first place...

And let us not forget that legal marriage is completely seperate from religious marriage in the eyes of the law. So, what christians need to worry about are the gays demanding to be religiously married, not the ones going to the courthouse.

This belief that gay marriage, or any other issue for that matter, is an attack on Christianity is silly. No one is attacking them, they are free to believe and practice what they want. They feel attacked because they are surrounded by those who don't share their beliefs. It is the feeling of going from the only game in town to the role of a sideline player and I think it stings for them to realize this. The reality is that they cannot anymore say that the wider culture should act a certain way to conformto their beliefs. The wider culture does not hold these narrow beliefs.

So, they argue instead that by allowing gay marriage we are starting down a slippery slope to bestiality. this is patently untrue both from a Christian as well as a biological perspective.

If Christians are right this won't happen simply because man and woman were made to be together and thus even if a few stray from this edict into sin the majority will not, if for no other reason than the fear of a good smiting. In a biological context it is silly because teh evolutionary imperitive is reproduction. Sure, across a population there are carying degrees of heterosexuality, but on the whole the majority fit nicely into the first standard deviation of the bell curve and always will. It's programed in our genes and would take quite a few deviant generations to change, not to mention that if it ever changed humans would cease to exist.

Before you go, be you liberal or conservative, you're brain probably hurts over this issue. Here is a list I found along with the above cartoon that thoroughly skewers the insipid stupidity of using a slippery slope argument against gay marriage.

1) Being gay is not natural. Real South Africans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

2) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

3) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

4) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

5) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Britney Spears's 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.

6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.

7) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

8) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only have one religion in South Africa.

9) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars or cellphones.
